II · Seven generations

“As a little girl I went with my father to the farm at weekends. I have a very strong bond with this place, because my roots are here, going back to 1754.”

Corine Raspail — owner

She reopened the doors of the old buildings on 2 April 1994. She welcomes you, hands you the IGN walking map, points you to the start of the footpaths and introduces her Rove goats. The rest of the time you will see nobody — which is rather the point.

Why “Ubac”? In Provence, the ubac is the shaded side of a valley, as opposed to the adret, the sunny side: the farm takes its name from its position. It makes no difference to the sunshine the cottages get throughout their opening season, from April to October.

Frequently asked questions

How many people per cottage?+

Two, comfortably, in the bedroom. Two more can sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, so four at most.

Are bed linen and towels provided?+

No, they are not provided: please bring your own.

Can we bring a dog?+

Yes, one pet per stay, with a supplement of €15 a week. There is plenty of space, and walking trails start at the gate. Two livestock guardian dogs live on the property, in fenced paddocks with their goats.

What is the minimum stay?+

Three nights from 3 April to 29 May, arriving any day. From 29 May to 25 September, by the week, Saturday to Saturday. From 25 September to 16 October, seven nights minimum online. In April and from 25 September, a shorter stay can be arranged by asking Corine directly. Check-in from 5 pm, check-out by 10 am.

How do we get there?+

By car, 1700 chemin du Pègue, Roche-Saint-Secret-Béconne. The last stretch is a country track: avoid very low cars — it is the one piece of advice our guests regularly give us. How do we pay?+

A 25% deposit when you book online, by card, and the balance on site when you arrive. French Chèques-Vacances are accepted. Also paid on arrival, where they apply: the pet supplement (€15 a week), optional end-of-stay cleaning (€50 a week), and firewood beyond the first basket, which is free (€6 a basket).
