Corine Raspail and her Rove goats at Ferme Le Grand Ubac

A family farm since 1754

Seven generations of Raspail on the same hillside. Corine grew up here, inherited the place, and reopened its doors on 2 April 1994. She distils her lavandin here.

Corine, in her own words

“As a little girl I went with my father to the farm at weekends — it was already called that back then. I have a very strong bond with this place, perhaps quite simply because my roots are here, going back generations.

My father's parents lived here; they were peasant farmers — smallholders, we would say today. They kept sheep and goats and worked the land. I am sorry I was too young to spend real time with them… I wish they were here today, and I hope they would be proud of the work done on the farm and of what it has become.

I thank my grandparents for this magical place, and my parents and my close family for their help. That is why Ferme Le Grand Ubac is a family story.”

Two and a half centuries, in a few dates

Nothing here was built in one go. The farm has changed in layers, and it still is changing.

  1. 1754

First records of the family on this hillside. The farm already has several centuries of stone behind it.

  2. In the old daysThe farming years

Corine's grandparents live here as peasant farmers: sheep, goats, working the land. The hay barn stores the hay — today it is the Le Cèdre cottage.

  3. 2 April 1994The reopening

Corine reopens the old buildings to holidaymakers. She has welcomed guests herself for more than thirty years.

  4. 2007

She discovers the Rove goat and starts a small herd. The herd now numbers about thirty animals.

  5. 2014

Arrival of Pâquerette and Pirouette, two donkeys of the Provence type.

  6. 2016

Manon joins the other two. The small group is complete.

The farm animals

They are not scenery. Corine keeps them herself, and you are welcome to come and meet them.

The Rove goats

A breed Corine discovered in 2007: as mischievous as any goat, but majestic with their lyre-shaped horns. The small herd now numbers about thirty goats. You are welcome to come and get to know them.

Pâquerette, Pirouette and Manon

The donkey is an intelligent, sensitive and very patient animal, which has carried people and their loads for centuries. Pâquerette and Pirouette, of the Provence donkey type, arrived in 2014. Manon joined them in 2016.

The horses

They share the meadows with the goats and the donkeys. Along with the thirty or so goats and the three donkeys, they make the walk down to the fences one of our guests' favourite outings — and their children's.

Ever since I was a child I have had a passion for animals.
